Introduction As healthcare and service providers in the HIV sector across the globe have strived to improve the care and support they provide for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) [1,2], great strides have been made in the treatment of HIV/AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic in the 1980s [1,3]. The introduction of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) during the mid-1990s has had a profound effect on the advancement of different treatment options.
