For people sensitive to the dry, windy climate of Colorado, Salida Sunshine Botanicals might be what their skin needs to “balance out,” according to owner Gena Shepherd. Salida Sunshine Botanicals will have its grand opening July 31 at 207 F St. Shepherd owned Salida Sunshine Market for 20 years in the space currently occupied by Coffee by Topo. The shop closed due in part to the pandemic and competition with their wares at the time.

Dark Sky River Lodge, 10281 U.S. 50 in Howard, aims to bring together a sense of community, owner Matt Morley said. He purchased it Oct. 1 with his wife, Rebekah, and they live there with two of their four children, Robin, 17, and Isaiah, 11. The location was previously known as Rocky Top River Ranch and in 1967 was known as River’s Edge, serving as a base camp for people exploring the area.

Salida Cyclones swimmers set 38 new team history records at the Alicia Leavitt Memorial Meet July 18-19 at Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center, winning the meet with 5,167.5 points. The La Junta Tigersharks took second with 1,881 points. The Cyclones team had 49 competing swimmers, among 145 participants. Cyclones coach Monica Guerra said the highlight for her was “seeing how strong these swimmers are swimming now at this point in the season.
