When The LaSallian first unpacked the struggles faced by Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) scholars, it talked of delayed stipends, stern retention policies, and bureaucratic hurdles that strained students both financially and academically. Since then, however, the conversation has evolved. Recent developments suggest the institute is addressing some of the long-standing concerns, particularly in streamlining the disbursement of undergraduate allowances.

The darkened room’s thick, expectant silence is broken by the wind howling and your own heart’s uneven beating. Your fingers firmly clench the game controller in an attempt to lead a character through this broken world of darkness and despair. Fear, in its simplest form, is the raw, instinctive response to danger. It is not just something we have learned to use, but also something we look for in the dim light of mediated content.

The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) undergraduate scholarships have long served as a beacon of hope for aspiring Filipino scientists, opening doors that might have otherwise stayed locked. Yet beneath this foundation of support lies a troubling reality: persistent scholarship fund delays, convoluted reimbursement processes, and bureaucratic hurdles that weigh heavily on the scholars’ lives.
