From $0 to $40M ARR: Inside the tech that powers Bolt.new
If you've started a new side-project recently, there's a good chance you've bumped into Bolt – a one‑prompt app builder that went viral thanks to demos that look like magic. Type a sentence, wait a few seconds, and out pops a fully running project. From the outside, Bolt seems like an overnight success story – another startup riding the wave of the AI boom. In fact, Bolt is among the most successful startup pivots ever. An overnight success that was seven years in the making.
8 annoying A/B testing mistakes every engineer should know
1. Including unaffected users in your experiment The first common mistake in A/B testing is including users in your experiment who aren't actually affected by the change you're testing. It dilutes your experiment results, making it harder to determine the impact of your changes. Say you're testing a new feature in your app that rewards users for completing a certain action. You mistakenly include users who have already completed the action in the experiment.
How I Overcame Imposter Syndrome While at Meta
I’ve been reflecting on the time I spent at Meta. In particular, how far I’ve come since my initial Imposter Syndrome when I first joined. I want to share what that experience was like for me and how I was able to overcome it (spoiler alert: it took a year of being there). I’ve written this with the hope that it helps anyone who is facing a similar situation to what I did — especially those who have recently joined a new company or have a new hire on their team.
A Summary of My Learnings On How To Find Startup Ideas
As mentioned in my previous post, I’ve been searching for new startup ideas and problem areas to tackle. It’s quite difficult to do, especially when you begin adding constraints to the criteria such as “Am I excited about this problem space?”. The internet is filled with helpful ways to come up with startup ideas and below is the summary of what I’ve learned on the topic during the last few months.
The Slack Problem Space and its Constraints
Slack is the industry-leading solution for tech companies. I see a large opportunity for improvement in how teams and companies communicate and collaborate. Slack was acquired for $27.7 billion in 2021 and Deel recently reached $100M ARR (showing that the market is growing). IMHO Slack doesn’t scale. The more people in a Slack workspace, the noisier it becomes. This causes people to forget to respond to messages or even where to respond. Slack is based on IRC and is a messaging client.
The Problem With Slack
In deciding what startup to start, I’ve been thinking about what problem space I want to tackle. An area that’s drawing my attention is team communication and collaboration, especially for knowledge workers. This is for several reasons: With the trend towards distributed/hybrid teams, effective communication is becoming increasingly important. Large opportunity size. Slack was acquired for $27.7 billion in 2021 and Deel recently reached $100M ARR (showing that the market is growing).
Our Failed Attempt at Saving $100,000 of Crypto from Hackers
This post is co-authored with Adonis Gaitatzis Introduction Three weeks ago a friend had their Terra LUNA wallet hacked. He had googled "terra station" and absent-mindedly clicked the top link - not realizing it was an ad to fake website. He entered in his seed phrase in the seemingly legit website and instantly the hackers had begun emptying his wallet. He had staked 1000 Luna in his wallet (worth about $100,000).
