A light snow blanketed the Kansas City region Saturday morning, as outside temperatures sent windchills as low as -19 degrees. A massive winter storm, stretching from Central Texas through the Northeast, rolled into Kansas City Friday, sending temperatures plunging. Precipitation is expected throughout the day Saturday into Sunday, with predicted snow totals between 2-6 inches. Snow has spread across the area and will continue through the day today and into Sunday morning.

To stop the Chiefs from moving to Kansas, Jackson County proposes another sales tax vote

Jackson County leaders have put forward a last-minute proposal to prevent the Kansas City Chiefs from moving across the state line to Kansas. The plan, called “Operation Save Arrowhead,” proposes putting a quarter-cent sales tax on the Jackson County ballot in April. Jackson County residents already pay a 3/8-cent sales tax to maintain both the Chiefs and Royals facilities, but that tax – and their leases – expire in 2031.

Overnight flooding in Kansas City leads to water rescues, power outages and road closures

The Kansas City fire department says it responded to 18 water rescues overnight Wednesday, after heavy rains fell across the Kansas City area. Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Merriam, Kansas, along Brush Creek near The Country Club Plaza and in Kansas City's Historic West Bottoms neighborhood in the early hours Wednesday morning. KCFD said the rescues began shortly after rain started falling and all involves vehicles stuck in high water.
