Introduction The term ‘paediatric palliative care’ (PPC) applies to children living with life-threatening and/or life-limiting conditions. There is no record of the number of children who need palliative care in Norway, but it is estimated that approximately 7500 children are living with a condition of this nature (1, 2). PPC is given for various diagnoses.

Abstract Background Being bullied and socially excluded interferes with the fundamental need for humans to belong to a social group, which is necessary for well-being. This might underpin pain and the use of non-prescription analgesics. Aim The aim of the study was to gain insight into how social exclusion and bullying affect well-being in adolescents reporting frequent pain and high use of non-prescription analgesics.

This study aims to describe conditions that may influence the development of identity in adolescents frequently using over‐the‐counter analgesics. Frequent self‐medication with analgesics among adolescents is associated with several physical pain points, low self‐esteem and low ambitions for the future. Continuous use of over‐the‐counter analgesics can keep adolescents from learning healthier coping strategies.
