CLOSING the access road to a Warwickshire beauty spot was the right decision, according to one volunteer who regularly clears up rubbish from the site. Until earlier this year, visitors to Oversley Wood could drive along a road off Trench Lane to reach an unofficial parking area. But, as reported by the Herald on 1st February, the road has been closed by National Highways after complaints of vehicles blocking access to Forestry England workers, and a farmer trying to reach his fields.

The jingle of bells and a torch lit procession heralded the revival of an ancient tradition on Saturday (3rd February) at the Alcester Community Orchard. A wassail ceremony to bless the fruit trees was re-enacted by officers of the court leet with the help of White Hart Morris who sang and danced by the light of flickering flames.

A DECISION to close an access road to Oversley Wood has been met with anger and frustration – and created a parking problem. The wood at Oversley Green near Alcester, owned and managed by Forestry England, has become increasingly popular, but inconsiderate parking by visitors has stopped forestry workers from getting onto the land.
