For more than two decades I have been lucky enough to be paid to write about offbeat people, places and things. I've explored country music hot spots and the market for Frank Lloyd Wright ephemera. A prolific freelance editor and writer, I have covered women’s health, pet-friendly travel, gardening, standup paddling, startup businesses, entrepreneurship, finance, the ongoing affordability crisis, and everything in between for publications ranging from Condé Nast Traveler to Fortune to Crain’s C…

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I made the switch from typewriter to computer after college. I have my mother's pale pink Smith Corona in my office for fun.

Why did you become a journalist?

With hindsight, I now say that helping people tell their stories, and helping people get access to accurate information is a form of service.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Write and take photos. Although I was more active on the yearbook, where I was the editor. Yearbook was more like a magazine to me.
