Abstract Objectives We aim to clarify the temporal relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults, subsequently exploring the association between IR and depressive symptom trajectories. Methods Using data on 2,144 participants from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing collected in 2004/05 (T1), 2008/09 (T2), and 2012/13 (T3), a two-stage analysis was conducted.
