Elizabeth Llorente

Elizabeth Llorente is Senior Reporter for Fox News Digital. She does deep dives into major issues of the day, as well lead investigative projects. Her specialties include immigration, the opioid epidemic and policies addressing it, and Cuba and Venezuela.

Llorente has won numerous awards, including the George Polk Award and New Jersey Journalist of the Year.

While at the Bergen Record, one of New Jersey's major newspapers, she profiled dozens of ethnic communities, put a human face on complex issues through powerful narratives, and exposed abuse and corruption that have generated reforms at both the state and national levels.

Her work has become a national model for race and ethnicity reporting, earning her the 2004 Career Achievement Award by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Llorente's coverage of immigration detention, for instance, has become required reading for reporters, scholars, and activists researching the U.S. political asylum system. In 2003, the Annenberg Institute of the University of Southern California named her one of the country’s top five race and ethnicity writers, and made her an Expert Fellow.

ABC-TV's Nightline featured Llorente and “A Tale of Two Cultures,” her series on ethnic relations in a small New Jersey town. Sig Gissler, administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, called it a “classic in journalism.”

She has won top honors from the New Jersey Press Association, New York's Deadline Club and the New York Society of the Silurians. More than 100 human rights organizations honored Llorente and Anthony Lewis of The New York Times for their cutting-edge coverage of refugees.

Llorente has dedicated herself to raising the standards of race and ethnicity reporting in the profession, and to teaching future journalists. She has authored widely circulated tips on reporting about race, and is a regular visiting lecturer at such institutions as Columbia University, the Poynter Institute and Rutgers University, and Baruch College in Manhattan. She has also spoken at Harvard, Lehman College, and Princeton University.

The University of Missouri School of Journalism – her alma mater --featured Llorente as the keynote commencement speaker. She is founder of New Jersey’s annual Ethics in Journalism forum, which is held at Rutgers University.

Llorente was born in the Bronx, and raised in New York and Union City.
