Liz's Kitchen: Double Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe
Grandma George said we're starting the new year with cookies and pies, so get ready for lots of dessert recipes...but who is really complaining about that? Grandma found this recipe in her collection and really wanted to try it and we always listen to Grandma.

Grandma George is giving us another great recipe out of her cookbook. This one is about as WNY as you can get, and by that I mean simple and tasty food. Liz's Kitchen: Hurry-Up Meatloaf recipe
This truly is a recipe that SHOCKED me. I was skeptical because I thought it would just taste like a ball of ground beef. I could not have been more wrong. The taste was amazing and it really was easy to make.
Liz's Kitchen: Grandma's Turkey Tempter Casserole recipe
Cooking with Grandma George has moved into the savory section. She has some great "homey" meals and we're going to explore them all. This is a classic casserole that will be perfect after Thanksgiving when you have leftover turkey and don't want another sandwhich.
Grandma George's Zucchini Bread recipe
I think my favorite thing about Liz's Kitchen is how a good recipe can make you feel like you're sitting at your grandma's kitchen table...but I literally get to do that when I finding recipes. It's turned into "Can you make such and such that she would make us all the time?" We're literally baking memories and its awesome.
Aunt Fanny's Baked Squash recipe
This is another recipe out of one of Grandma George's cookbook and that book hasn't missed yet. This recipe was submitted by Aunt Fanny's Cabin in Smyrna, GA...and honestly, how do you not cook and recipe from somehow called Aunt Fanny. This recipe was easy enough to make but adding a little cheese or garlic would nudge this up to a great recipe.
Tomato Soup Cake recipe
It sounds too gross to be true, but like most recipes out of Grandma George's cookbook...it's delicious. It was created in the 1920's by Campbells soup but really became popular post WW2. Insane again, but it works.
Mom's (Elaine) Orange Jello Salad
What we call dessert the people of Wisconsin call salad and I'm all about it! I had this recipe over the holiday at a family Christmas and immediately asked for the recipe. It was presented as a salad that goes on your plate next to your food... but we did wait till dessert to have it. When I was told it was Orange Jello I had my doubts but I am so glad I tired it anyway because it was absolutely delicious.
Sour Milk Apple Kuchen recipe
This cake is SUPER delicious and if you have a ton of apples from your trip to the orchard, this is the perfect recipe to help get rid of them! It's from one of Grandma George's cookbooks and these recipes have not missed. The recipe was submitted to the cookbook by Clara Paduano and it's a keeper. The base cake is my favorite part and can be used as your cake canvas to add anything as the topping! Ingredients 1 c. sugar butter (size of an egg) 1 egg pinch salt 1 c. sour milk 2 c.
Maple Butterscotch Brownies recipe
I'm ready for Fall and these brownies scream fall. The taste of maple and the sweetness that makes you want to have a cup of coffee... it's all there. This is another recipe out of Grandma George's recipe box and this recipe was from Dorothy Maxwell, and let me tell you, she knew what she was doing. Enjoy. Ingredients 1/2 cup margarine, melted 1 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 1/2 tsp Maple Flavoring 1 c chopped nuts 2 eggs 1 1/2 cup flour 1 tsp baking pwd.
Strawberry Shortcake recipe
I had the BEST strawberries the others day! I thought they had been sprinkled with sugar but they hadn't...it was amazing. That reminded me it was strawberry shortcake season. I love this dessert becuase it's so light you can eat it in the heat and you can eat it with little guilt.
Goat Cheese and Fig Toast recipe
Have you ever has something you loved so much at a restaurant that you had to try a replicate it home? That is THIS recipe for me. Mulberry's used to have something super similar to this on their menu and it became one of my favorites because it packed with different flavors and texture while still eating light. Now, you can make it with the large slice of break but I like to use a baguette and make a smaller bite sizer version for the perfect patio appetizer.
Chicken Parm Casserole recipe
This is more assembling than cooking but I am here for it. The reheat-ability during a busy week can be life saving and that's why I LOVE a casserole. It's everything you need in one dish and it makes dinners or lunches easy for the week! I hope you enjoy this one becuase it's delicious.
Mrs. Librock's Tot Casserole recipe
This might be one of the Top 3 easiest recipes in Liz's Kitchen. It's so easy, and it's so delicious. When Mrs. Librock was telling me about I literally said "Wait... hold on. Tell me again." Just the recipe had my mouth watering. She said it's perfect as and appetizer or a side dish...and I agree. Ingredients 1 bag Ore Ida Tater Tots 12 oz container of Bison Dip (probably won't use all the dip) 2 cups shredded cheddar Instructions Bake tots until extra crispy. Then place some tots in a 2qt baking dish.
Goat Cheese Hot Honey Tartlets recipe
I was thinking meat raffles and patio drinking when I cam up with this tartlet idea. I love goat cheese and the play of heat and sweet. These are mostly assembly which I love - a quick use if the stove top and oven and you're ready to go.
Hillbilly Dip recipe
I think the foundation of any good dip is cream cheese and that's exactly the foundation of Hillbilly Dip. Just three ingredients and about 20-25 minutes will give you a delicious dip that will be a fan favorite! It really is a quick and easy recipe that I guarantee people will enjoy. Ingredients 1 lb Jimmy Dean Sausage (or any other pork breakfast sausage) 1 block cream cheese 1 can Rotel Instructions Brown and drain sausage. While hot, add cream cheese and Rotel and mix well.
Pepperoni Dip recipe
All good dips have cream cheese as an ingredient! Is that a fair statement? If you don't love cream cheese, this dip really isn't for you, but everyone else buckle up! We use to make this dip every time we got together at our friends house...we always had a dip.
Sausage Roll recipe
It's another recipe out of Grandma George's cookbook, this one was submitted by Mary Zappone. I would classify this as a softer calzone or at least a shortcut to a calzone. It's super easy and requires very little prep work.
Cinnamon Roll and Sausage Bake recipe
Weekend and holiday breakfasts are my favorite. There is something about it that just makes me feel warm. This recipe is the ultimate salt/sweet breakfast bite - perfect for any weekend or holiday! Chicken Parm Casserole recipe
I LOVE a casserole! It's filling, it's easy to clean up, and it makes the week a little more stress-free. I'm always looking for a fun new twist on the classic and came across one from Emily Bites, and after having her version I knew I needed a little more. And not only does it make it a lot more filling, but it adds everyone's favorite... pasta.
Sour Cream Pound Cake recipe
A little sweet treat is always in order and this sour cream pound cake recipe is perfect. Full of flavor and a recipe that will keep you away from your cake being dry... it's perfect. Now, I used a little bundt cake maker but you can absolutely make it in the bigger pan (as the recipe states). Also, instead of the powdered sugar, I made a glaze.
Beef and Broccoli Casserole recipe
Casseroles are one of my favorites because it means easy meals all week. You can come home and not worry about having to make dinner, you just have to heat it. It also takes me back to the casseroles my grandma would make. This one is a simple beef and broccoli one because I was craving broccoli one week. It's a cheesy, creamy, tasty, and filling dish that you; 're going to love! Simple and tasty! Enjoy.
No Bean Chili recipe
I whipped this chili together last weekend when we were going sledding at Grandma George's. We needed something easy and warm to eat when we were done, so I used what I had and made a chili. What I didn't expect was for my nephew to LOVE it! He had like three bowls and then asked me if I would make this exact chili for his birthday! Now, if that isn't a compliment I don't know what it is! As soon as I got home I wrote down what I had done so I could make it the exact same way for his birthday.
Sweet & Spicy Corn Salsa recipe
I had this one Christmas in North Carolina when my sister said we had to try this salsa her friend made all them time. It caught my attention becuase upfront it was a sweet salsa, but once you gave it a minute if finished and lingered with this heat... it was addictive. She shared the recipe with me and said there are other variations of this type of salsa and that sometimes when she makes it people call it "Texas Caviar." Either way, it super easy to make and super tasty.
Candied Ginger Carrots
If my grandpa was making it, it had to be good! These candied ginger carrots are the perfect side dish for any meal - easy to make, delicious to eat. Here's to trying to make more meals at home in the New Year. Ingredients 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup orange juice 2 tablespoons butter 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 2 pounds medium-sized carrots, peeled and cut in 1/8-inch-thick rounds.
Carol's Pineapple Squares recipe
It's the busy holiday season which means you want easy recipes that can be done while you're doing five other things...and this recipe is just that! It's from my Grandma's friend, Carol. Super easy! In fact, it uses one bowl, one pot, and a 9x13-- the mess is minimal! Enjoy! Ingredients 2 1/4 cup flour (sifted) 2 cups sugar 1 can crushed pineapple (add juice too) 2 eggs 2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp vanilla Instructions Mix all the above ingredients and pour into a 9x13 greased pan.
Ginger Apple Cake recipe
Another recipe from Grandma George's recipe collection is here and of course, it's delicious. This sounded so good with the weather and the season and it tastes like you should be eating next to fireplace all cozy. The original recipe was submitted by Janet Aman and she knew what she was doing. This recipe is so easy to make and the ingredients are minimal.
Jill's Chicken Casserole recipe
I LOVE a good casserole! It's everything you love on your plate in one bite, and that's why finding the right recipe is important - you don't want to mess up that one bite! Jill's Chicken Casserole recipe covers all of that and more.
Grandma's Oven Beef Stew recipe
Now that the days are getting colder it's time to start planning some hearty meals. This beef stew was my grandmother's recipe and she used to make it for me when I lived with her briefly before moving to Buffalo. What is really cool is that when I make now, it's in the same roasting pan she used when she made it. When she passed, I was able to get her set of roasting pans... just a cool little fact that keeps me connected to her.
Cheesecake Tarts recipe
If you need a dessert that looks like you spent all day in the kitchen, this is the one for you. These cheesecake tarts are easy to make and they get very close to tasting just like the most decadent cheesecake you can think of. The best part is they are a blank canvas that you can top with anything form fresh fruit to caramel sauce! Did I mention that were easy to make?
Chicken Milanese Sandwich recipe
This is less of a recipe and more assembly instruction, but sometimes you need the EASY. I had a similar sandwich at a restaurant recently and I knew I had to be able to make this at home because it was that good! The thing I love about it is I could buy everything at the store and the only cooking for me was turning on the oven.
Jill's Sausage Monkey Bread recipe
A one bundt pan dish? Is that thing? It is now, because you will be adding this to your favorites after you try it once. The general idea of a monkey bread but were taking it the savory route.
Onion Crescent Crunch Sticks recipe
It's another recipe from Grandma George's recipe stash, so you know it's going to be good! This recipe was submitted to the cookbook from Roxanne Curtis on Hilton, NY and let me tell you, she knows her stuff! This is a quick recipe for a delicious appetizer.
Bagel Bites recipe
This was a TikTok find! I've tried recipes from TikTok before that haven't panned out so I was a little suspicious of this one but it turned out great! You can watch the original video from the creator, NishaCares, that has gone viral, and for good reason...the recipe works! What I love about this recipe is itas a canvas recipe - you can turn this into whatever you want.
Jello Cookie recipe
Jello is cookies? Who knew? This was another recipe out of Grandma George's recipe box and this one didn't miss either! (The name on the recipe card said Shirley Kibler - I want to make sure she gets credit) It eats a little like a shortbread but the flavor REALLY comes through. Now, the recipe called for a cookie press, but I don't own one so I rolled the dough into balls and pressed some down, and just left some in the ball.
Strawberry Nut Bread recipe
This is another recipe out of Grandma George's cookbook and you know what, it hasn't missed yet. This recipe was submitted to the cookbook by Pam Persia and it just drew me in because it screamed summer!! I think when we think of breads that aren't for sandwiches we go right to banana, which is an obvious classic. However, this bread will be a new favorite! The secret is the lemon extract, it gives this brightness to the bread while the sweetness from the strawberry still shines through.
Sloppy Joe Cornbread Casserole recipe
Sometimes mistakes are the best. After realizing I didn't have the right ingredients for the recipe that was planned, an audible had to called and dinner had to be made on the fly. Which honestly, sometimes our best things come from having to improvise. This super simple casserole is so tasty and it's like a meal all in one.
Jill's Taco Croissant recipe
These are delicious! They're called Taco Croissants because they remind me of the chocolate croissants you get at the bakery, but just filled with taco filling.
Jan's Cheese Puffs recipe
When Grandma George gave me one of her old recipe boxes I didn't know I would be getting SO many treasures. I'm to the point now in Liz's Kitchen where I'm discovering recipes I want to share with you, and that's just as fun! I saw the recipe for the cheese puffs and thought it looked too easy... it couldn't be good, right? WRONG! They're perfect. I have a meat raffle and these are the perfect salty snack for a drink and winning some meat.
Corn Pudding recipe
I'm not going to lie, I picked this recipe because I was in a hurry and it looked the easiest. But also, sometimes that is exactly what we need, fast and easy. I was able to whip this together and get in the oven in about 5 minutes. This recipe was from my grandmother and I don't remember ever having it at her house, but she would never write down a bad recipe. It gives you that corn flavor with out just being a can of corn.
Betty's Bacon Dressing Salad recipe
Don't be deceived by the name of this recipe, there isn't actually bacon in the dressing. I'm not sure why it's called Bacon Dressing but it was a handwritten recipe and I don't question those. It's a oniony vinaigrette over spinach, egg, bean sprouts, croutons and... bacon. It reminds me of a similar salad my Aunt makes every year at Christmas called, "Betty Salad". It is a fun spin on just serving lettuce with dressing and it's super easy to make and assemble.
Carrot Salad recipe
Normally I'm sharing recipes that I can't get enough of but this one comes from a different place. I was looking through Grandma George's recipe box and came across this recipe from Kathleen Brawley (want to make sure I give credit) and I did a double take at the ingredients. Could all of these things taste good together??? I put it to a vote on Instagram and everyone said to give it a try. Here's what I think - it would be great over rice or mixed in with noodles, like a pasta salad.
Hot Gingerbread recipe
This is a recipe out of Grandma George's recipe box and it, like all the others, does not disappoint! I know I just did molasses cookies, but what can I say... I'm on a kick! This was a pretty easy recipe to make and if I do it again I would make them into muffins (just a fun note).
Corned Beef Risotto recipe
We always make a lot of corned beef for St. Patrick's day and are always looking for a great way to repurpose it. This year I took a shot at making it into a risotto and it worked out amazing!!! So good! And, the best part is you can save the risotto and make arancini the next day.
Grammy's Molasses Cookie recipe
Anything with cloves reminds me of my grandma's house. It always has a hint of it and it's such a strong smell... I love it. These cookies will fill your kitchen with that smell and make you drool at the same time. Now, we ALWAYS had these with a sharp cheddar. I don't know why but it works and it's delicious. The thing I love about these cookies is they're a little bit thicker than you would think and they're soft.
Rhodes Roll Pecan Rolls recipe
This is another one of those recipes that we always made at my grandma's house. It was something that we carried on and make when we were together as a family. In fact, we made it last weekend when I was back in Ohio with my cousins and sister. It's another one of those meals that you prep the night before and it makes your morning so easy! We use Rhodes a lot in our family, my grandma use to make them as dinner rolls and we called them bathroom rolls, but that's a story for a different time.
