Home care providers are still reeling after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services articulated a rigid definition of “medically frail” in the Medicaid work requirements interim final rule released this week. Individuals on Medicaid who are “medically frail” may receive exemptions from the work, or community engagement, requirements, set to kick in Jan. 1, 2027.

Americans ages 50 and older now contribute $12.5 trillion annually to the economy — an increase of more than $2 trillion since 2018, investigators found. This reflects both the rapid growth of the older population and the increasingly essential economic role they play, the report said. Nearly 54 million Americans ages 50-plus are employed.
