Just ‘Shut Up and Go’ - my favourite travel show
Writer presents her favourite travel show on YouTube - 'Shut up and Go'. The internet is full of information and resources to tell you about where to travel and what to do when you are there, so it is sometimes difficult to sift through it all, especially when some of the content can be quite dry. So, my favourite travel show is a breath of fresh air in these circumstances.
Reality Rundown: Below Deck Mediterranean
Image credit: IMDB I can’t lie, I am a big fan of reality TV shows. Especially when I’m stressed, reality TV provides the perfect escape from whatever is weighing on my mind. So, this summer, when we were mourning the loss of our daily fix of Love Island, my flatmates and I drew up a list of all the reality shows that we wanted to binge on an evening after we’d all got home from work. And alas, we settled on Below Deck. Specifically, Below Deck: Mediterranean.
The Outdated Sizing System
Image: Sophia Ayub If you’ve ever felt frustrated by clothes that don’t fit, the likelihood is it’s not you, it is the shockingly ill-fitting sizing system. Earlier this month it was my friend’s birthday, and sick of my current wardrobe, I wanted to buy myself a new dress. Ideally, I was looking for something that I could wear again and again, something that was comfortable and flattering. Alas, this was much harder than I had anticipated.
Influencers who are proving that all bodies are beach bodies

Image from Unsplash @billiebodybrand A recurring struggle for me is feeling confident in my own skin. Without going into too much detail, I am currently having a bit of a body-confidence crisis. I think that the uni lifestyle, health issues and maybe even the rumoured second puberty hitting all at once have contributed to me feeling less confident with my body.
Y2K: the Decade of Questionable (But Iconic) Fashion Choices
Image: Instagram @forever_lizzie_mcguire Thanks to the trend cycle, Y2K fashion has been circulating on social media and has filtered into fast fashion collections for a while now. Baby tees, low-rise jeans, Juicy tracksuits, butterfly crop tops, loose-fitting tailoring, snakeskin, lace-up ties, crochet detail, body chains, baguette bags – you name it. Arguably, these iconic trends from the noughties have been reinvented to fit the modern wardrobe.
Planning a holiday on a student budget

Dopamine Dressing
Is this simply a fashion trend, or can it be a way to increase our happiness? Image: Instagram @hope.macauley Spring has officially sprung (although you wouldn’t be able to tell with these grey Newcastle skies) and it is a great time to start dressing like it. Think bright colours and patterns, pastels, and chunky knits.
Live Review: Dua Lipa
Only last week, I was talking with my family at our annual Easter barbecue about the best concerts we’d ever been to and how much we’ve missed live music. We were also talking about who we hoped to see in the future now that live music is back. The last concert I went to was about a month before the pandemic, which was way too long ago, so I jumped at the opportunity to see Dua Lipa at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle on Saturday.
The power of charity shops
Image: Lizzie Yockney I am certainly no stranger to a charity shop. My mum would drag me from shop to shop when I was younger, hunting for a bargain. She was, and still is, a big fan of picking up something for cheap that would be more expensive elsewhere. I also volunteered in a local charity shop for a while, which I absolutely loved, as I would finish my shift and race to buy the item that I had been eyeing up for the past two hours.
The Bond Street Christmas Decorations
Image: Instagram @london_snappiness Do these displays encourage excessive and unnecessary spending, especially within an industry that is exploitative of both people and planet? Suddenly, its that time of year again. Daylight savings have kicked in, the evenings are longer and darker, and the urge to hibernate gets more and more tempting every year (at least for me). It seems that during this time of very little sunshine, the only thing getting me through the winter is the prospect of Christmas.
