Samir Crosby Excited to Prove Doubters Wrong in WPIAL Playoffs
Greensburg Central Catholic won their first playoff game in over a decade when they defeated West Greene 42-22 at Plum High School this past weekend. In fact, you’d have to go all the way back to 2009 when the school finished as the PIAA AA runners-up to find their last playoff win. It’s safe to say that the Centurions are playing with a chip on their shoulder when they take on South Side Beaver this weekend.

Watch: Maryland Students Misspell Mascot’s Name
MLB The Tigers announced that first baseman/outfielder Mark Canha has been acquired in a trade with the Brewers. Minor league reliever Blake Holub heads back to Milwaukee in return. It can be assumed that Detroit will exercise the $11.5M club option on Canha’s services for the 2024 season, which is essentially a $9.5M decision since that option came with a $2M buyout. The trade saves the Brewers from at least that $2M payout, while also bringing a 25-year-old reliever into the farm system.

Ryan Cory’s Journey to Wisconsin
There are approximately 1.1 million high-school football players in America. About 6.5% of that number – approximately 71,000 – will play in the NCAA. A little less than 6,000 of those players will receive a scholarship from a power five school. The numbers are worth repeating, because simply making a power five roster doesn’t always feel like the accomplishment that it is. However, it’s almost an unbelievable achievement for many high school athletes and their parents.

Eagle correspondent recounts officiating cousin’s wedding
Question, which is better: Christmas season or wedding season? Of course, it’s wedding season. Two love birds tying the knot is an event everyone looks forward to, especially those lucky enough to be involved in the ceremony itself. I had the opportunity to officiate my cousin’s wedding, Samantha and Michael Scialabba, toward the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. And yes, introducing the couple with the last name Scialabba was one of the scarier parts of the evening.
