Logan Sugarman’s Biography

Logan Sugarman is an entrepreneur, investor, and builder recognized as the Founder and CEO of Refresh, an HR technology platform transforming how modern workforces experience their workplaces. With over twenty years of experience spanning Wall Street, climate technology, and enterprise software, he has developed companies that connect data, logistics, and human behavior in innovative and practical ways.

Founder & CEO of Refresh: A SuperApp for Frontline and Deskless Workforces

Founded in 2007, Refresh is a customizable, all-in-one SuperApp that brings together the tools, benefits, and communication systems used by global workforces—particularly frontline, deskless, and hybrid employees. Unlike standard HR solutions, the platform tailors each employee’s experience based on their role, employment type, and location, ensuring access to tools and benefits that truly fit individual needs.

The Problem:

Most large organizations provide employees with hundreds of tools and resources, with HR teams introducing approximately 4.2 new applications every month. This growing complexity has a significant cost—over $100 billion in HR and IT time spent on management, training, and support. Employees lose around $400 billion in value due to poor personalization, resulting in underutilization and lower satisfaction. Vendors also miss out on $50 billion in potential revenue because tools are hard to access, and engagement remains low.

Under his direction, Refresh has become a trusted solution for Fortune 500 companies, major unions, and charitable organizations. The platform now integrates with over 3,000 HRIS, LMS, payroll, and benefits systems, offering built-in modules for wellness, rewards, onboarding, communications, and feedback. This makes it a unified system that simplifies how employees connect with existing tools.

In 2025, SHRM named Refresh one of only three companies selected from more than 500 applicants for its Accelerator Program, recognizing its innovation and growing impact on workplace wellness and engagement. SHRM also made a significant investment in the company, affirming its belief in Refresh’s vision and role in shaping the future of employee experience.

Refresh has also been honored by Accenture through its Global HR Technology Challenge and partners with organizations such as HUB International and UKG.

Co-Founder, Triangle Digital

Logan Sugarman is also the co-founder of Triangle Digital, Inc., a company helping transition industries toward a climate-resilient economy by directly linking large-scale data with financial assets. The platform gathers and analyzes information from various sources, including billing systems and IoT sensors, to support sustainability reporting, benchmarking, and asset-level analysis.

Triangle was recognized as Innovation of the Year in Carbon Markets for 2025 by Environmental Finance for its development of stackable Carbon and Co-Benefit Credits (covering Water, Biodiversity, PFAs, PM, and UN SDGs) as RWAs, which can be sold together or separately.

The company has issued approximately $265 million in carbon credits for Dynamic Carbon Credits and Water Energy Forward as regulated financial instruments that banks can now hold in custody. This innovation helps shift the market from a “Buy and Retire” to a “Buy and Bank” model.

Triangle was also the Winner of the Brazil Central Bank Life Data Program for COP30. Its blended finance approach introduced a “Carbon Warrant,” which combines Carbon and Co-Benefit Credits to reduce risk for both lenders and borrowers.

Co-Founder, Balcony Partners, LLC

He also co-founded and serves as CIO of Balcony Partners, an SEC-registered investment advisory firm managing $100 million in assets. The firm focuses on volatility-based quantitative strategies and private-equity investments in clean energy, including residential solar and tax credit optimization.

Additionally, he sponsors two Nasdaq-listed SPACs: GSR III and GSR IV. GSR III recently completed a major energy-sector combination with Terra Innovatum, a company advancing energy access through micro-modular nuclear systems.

Investments & Advisory Roles

He is an active early-stage investor with more than 100 angel investments, including Scale AI, Liquid Death, and venture funds such as Scribble and 776. He also advises startups, including Diameter, supporting innovation across sectors.

Career Foundation: From Technology to Wall Street and Back

He began his career at Accenture as a Technology Strategy Consultant, leading teams in developing data-driven CRM systems for E-Trade. These systems supported trade processing, account management, and data analysis for profitability and segmentation.

He later held senior positions at Exis Capital, Kinyan Capital, and Swiss Re, where he helped manage a $1 billion long/short equity portfolio focused on financial and macro strategies. As Co-Portfolio Manager at Midsummer Capital, he co-led a $150 million carve-out fund.

Board Memberships, Philanthropy, and Media

He actively supports Minnesota Public Radio and his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University, where he endowed a scholarship, chaired the Junior Board (Second Decade Society), and currently serves on the Krieger School Advisory Board. He also supports the JCCA and has chaired the Religious School at his local synagogue, contributing regularly to causes focused on education and entrepreneurship.

A creative contributor as well, he has operated art galleries in Minneapolis (Gallery 13) and New York (Lital Mehr Gallery), promoting emerging artists. He has also executive-produced several Lifetime-distributed films, including The Secret Life of a Celebrity, The Au Pair Nightmare, A Deadly Price for Her Pretty Face, and Escaping Dad.

Education

Logan Sugarman attended Johns Hopkins University, earning dual bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Psychology, with minors in Computer Science. His earlier education took place at St. Paul Academy and Summit School in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

He has been a CFA Charterholder since 2004 and established a scholarship to encourage entrepreneurship.

On the Personal Side

Originally from Minnesota, he now resides in New York with his wife and daughter. Whether building the future of HR technology or advancing digital climate finance, Logan Sugarman continues to focus on solutions that scale effectively, empower people, and create meaningful transformation.
