The inclusion in Zero 10 of international houses such as Hauser & Wirth and Marian Goodman feels like a show of faith in a post-medium art world free from artificial separations. ‍ At the center of the presentation at Zero 10 is Mapan’s largest oil painting to date, État des lieux, 2026, 2m tall by 2.5m wide, and made up of 20 wood panels. The work, Mapan says, is in the tradition of David Hockney's A Bigger Grand Canyon (1998), in the way it embraces multiple vantage points to create a sweeping, generative landscape. ‍ Hockney and his work had been the subject of international attention since he graduated from the Royal College of Art (RCA) London in 1962. He was an artist who from the first engaged thoughtfully with new technologies, from Polaroid cameras via the Quantel Paintbox to the latest versions of the iPhone and iPad.
