Exploring the Generation study Purpose and leadership: The Generation study is a national research initiative focused on analysing the genomes of newborns to enhance the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of genetic conditions. It is led by Genomics England in collaboration with the NHS, with a strong emphasis on diversity.

Recently, Shang et al. (2024) analyzed 360 observations of soil N2O emissions across 53 sites and showed the inclusion of these emissions during the fallow period—defined as the period between harvest and sowing of the following crop—doubled the N2O emission factor (EF) for N fertilizer from 0.9% to 1.9%. This may be an important finding, supporting the need to improve national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories based on the IPCC Tier 1 method.
