While the company’s global advertising and marketing spend in 2025 was US$518.5 million, in the UK it initially focused on podcasts such as The Rest is History and others. Recently has turned to advertising on the London Underground, arousing controversy in some quarters. One ad has had a particularly negative reception from therapy professionals.

Facebook and YouTube Trials Expose Social Media Addiction for Young People

At the end of March 2026 a jury in Los Angeles found Facebook and YouTube had endangered the mental health of young users by building technology specifically to lead to addiction. In this widely-reported test case an anonymous woman known as Kaley accused Meta (Facebook’s parent company) Google's YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok, intending her to become addicted to their products.
