What was your first job as a journalist?

My first article was published in 2000.

Yes, and I have the RSA level qualifications to prove it

By making headlines happen quickly, whether fake or real.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To have an honest opinion, but without hurting others

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email. But read my work first. I can't count the number of pitches I have had that have been nothing to do with my area of interest.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Wordpress blog. Google email. Excel spreadsheet, BeFunky photo editor.

Twitter

Who do you wish followed you?

As many PR companies and creatives as possible across the arts.

Why did you become a journalist?

To support a great industry

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

One of my first opinion pieces in response to a column in the Evening Standard about not liking musicals but liking music.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Keep doing what makes you tick. Take heed of advice and grab opportunities.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I get approached by fashion houses for collaboration purposes

What's your favorite drink?

Tea. I am British after all.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At the theatre

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That theatre critics are just there for the freebies and we don't work hard!
