An 11-year-old boy who was tragically killed when he was hit by a train at a level crossing was 'distracted by his phone'. Jaiden Shehata died while crossing the Bourneview footpath crossing near Kenley, Croydon, on January 23, 2025. At the inquest into his death on Thursday (September 24) Sarah Ormond-Walshe, senior coroner at South London Coroners' Court, said Jaiden was "doing something which was very much normal behaviour by all of us", adding that "everybody" gets distracted by their phones.

Jaiden Shehata, 11, died after being struck by a train at the Bourneview footpath crossing near Kenley on January 23, 2025. An inquest into his death on Thursday heard the youngster likely became "distracted by his phone" when walking the footpath.
