Friday's Airtricity League Premier Division updates
Dundalk boss Stephen O'Donnell has pointed to his side's fine record at the venue as they look to make it nine points in a week. "We're really looking forward to it. The Brandywell is always a good place to go and play. It's a really big pitch so it suits good footballers and there'll be a lot of them on the pitch on Friday." "Derry are unbeaten in their opening four. They'll be riding the crest of a wave at the minute but our confidence is also high after the last two results.
U20 Six Nations: Scotland v Ireland - Updates
TEAM NEWS Ireland head coach Richie Murphy has chosen to rotate things a little ahead of this game, making three changes from the side that saw off Italy in Treviso. There's one change to the backline, where Andrew Osborne - brother of Leinster's Jamie - comes onto the wing.
Rahm out of Players, Lowry and Power set to miss cut
Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the Players Championship ahead of his second round because of illness. The Spaniard, ranked world number one, had recorded a one-under-par 71 in his first round on Thursday at TPC Sawgrass. Rahm tops the FedExCup standings having won three tournaments, most recently the Genesis Invitational last month. He had been due to tee off alongside American Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, who are both in position take over the number one spot with good results this week.
McKibbin remains in contention at the Kenya Open
Tom McKibbin fired a successive round of 69 to leave himself six shots behind leader Nacho Elvira at the halfway point of the Magical Kenya Open. McKibbin had an eventful outward nine, with three bogeys to go along with shots picked up on three and four. An eagle on ten was the start of a more consistent showing heading for home. A birdie at the last saw him finish on four over and in a share of 26th. The other Irish players in the field did not make the cut, which was one under.
Home favourite Un-Nooh to meet Ding in Six Red final
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh rallied from 5-2 and 6-4 down to beat Hossein Vafaei 7-6 and set up a final against Ding Junhui at the Six Red World Championship final in Bangkok. Vafaei, who punished a missed match ball from Judd Trump in Thursday's quarter-final, was guilty of letting victory slip from his fingers as he missed a difficult pink that would have given him a 7-5 win. Un-Nooh made him pay as a number of snookers settled the deciding frame to put the Thai into his third final in eight years.
BBC make Gary Lineker 'step back' from Match of the Day
Gary Lineker will "step back" from presenting Match Of The Day until he and the BBC have reached an "agreed and clear position" on his use of social media. The presenter has been embroiled in a row over impartiality after comparing the language used to launch a new UK Government asylum policy with 1930s Germany. A BBC spokesperson said: "The BBC has been in extensive discussions with Gary and his team in recent days.
Conte 'ready to die' for Spurs until end of season
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has come out swinging and insisted he will "die for this club" but only until the end of the season after acknowledging the supporters' lack of patience. Spurs’ painful FA Cup and Champions League exits this month have increased speculation over the future of the under-pressure Italian, whose terms expire in the summer.
Connacht add Irish-qualified Jansen to their ranks

The 23-year-old, originally from Dunedin in New Zealand, joined the reigning Gallagher Premiership champions in January 2022 from the Otago Rugby Football Union. He has featured 15 times for the club, predominately at number 8 but can also play across the back row.
Liverpool's forward planning already paying off
Liverpool's forward line is undergoing an evolution but manager Jurgen Klopp believes the club is already reaping the rewards of their longer-term planning made this season. In the week following the 7-0 demolition of Manchester United, principal owner John W Henry spoke of his ongoing commitment to the club and the need to continue to "invest wisely".
Farrell: Always a 'ding-dong' battle against Scots
Andy Farrell straight-batted a question about this version of the Scotland team being the toughest Ireland have faced in recent times, but deep down he'll know it to be true. Buoyed after backing up their success over England with a comprehensive victory over Wales, which meant back-to-back opening wins for the first time in the Six Nations, Gregor Townsend’s side, upon reflection, will still have taken much from the 32-21 loss to France last time out.

Pitch inspections for all four Premier Division games
All four of tonight's SSE Airtricity Premier Division games must pass pitch inspections this afternoon, as the cold weather and snow has raised doubts about the playability of some pitches. Derry City's clash with Dundalk at the Brandywell is the first that will be decided as an inspection at 1:30pm will decide whether or not that game can go ahead. The three other games are all due to take place in Dublin which appears to have escaped some of the worst weather that has hit the country.

Eddie Howe has admitted further restrictions on spending would inhibit Newcastle's blueprint for success following a call from Liverpool owner John W Henry to impose fresh limits. Henry, initially a supporter of the collapsed European Super League, this week spoke about imposing curbs on top of the existing Financial Fair Play and profit and sustainability regulations under which Premier League clubs must operate to preserve competition in English football.

O'Mahony delighted for Snyman after long road back
Munster captain Peter O'Mahony paid tribute to RG Snyman, who made his long awaited comeback for the province last week. Dowling: Restrictions on 'Maor Uisce' a "disgrace"
Former Limerick hurler Shane Dowling has branded the continuing restrictions on water carriers entering the field of play a "disgrace". The Maor Foirne role has essentially been neutered since 2021 GAA Congress, amid concern from delegates that the role was being deployed to issue on-field tactical instructions, along with the well-worn practice of loitering in the eyeline of the opposition keeper on puckouts/kickouts.

'It's not always like this, you've got to cherish it'
While the current Ireland squad contains a healthy core of players from the 2018 Grand Slam success, for many of Andy Farrell's squad who will line out against Scotland, this is unfamiliar terrain. In the pack, Dan Sheehan, Rónan Kelleher and Caelan Doris arrived long after the title success of five years ago, while the knee injury suffered by Josh van der Flier in the opening round of 2018 against France saw him miss out on end of that campaign.
