Writing for Google Bulletin through a program called Oakland Voices.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! Those were the days. Then I had a word processor. Then the best operating system of all times....Windows 98. lol
How is social media changing news?
It's actually making us smarter by showcasing our ignorance.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
DSLR Camera, Adobe Lightroom, H4N Recorder, Surface or my MacBook Pro
Who do you wish followed you?
Michelle Obama, Assata, AOC, Patrice Cullors but I'd really prefer f everyone followed
Why did you become a journalist?
I am a stickler for details and nuance and find solace in combing out a tangled web.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The tragic story of Nia Wilson, who was murdered on Bart by a suspected white supremacist.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write! Write until you don't have time to speak. Write regardless of readers and write when you assume no one cares. Oh and a good editor!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Networking and trying to either intake information or share information with others.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That black news is always about crime and squalor. Many interesting & positive stories in our community are often glossed over.
