Genetic structure of nightingale populations PCA of all 154 263 SNPs from 293 sympatric and 33 allopatric individuals clearly differentiated the two species with the first principal component (PC1) explaining 56% of the variability (Supporting information). In accordance with previous studies (Storchová et al. 2010, Janoušek et al. 2019), genetic differentiation estimated using FST was higher on the Z chromosome (FST = 0.273) compared to autosomes (FST = 0.168).
