The Asia Infrastructure Forum was not convened as an energy conference. Its remit ran across the whole built environment - transport, water, digital networks, cities, and the capital that has to be raised to deliver them. Yet by the close of the second day, anyone keeping a tally would have noticed something telling: better than four in every five minutes of discussion had been spent on a single subject - Power. That was not a failure of programming. It was the most honest signal from the room.

Building on its role as Owner’s Engineer for Phase 1 of IWMF, which is currently being delivered by a team led by AECOM and Binnies with support from Ramboll, the joint venture will support the next phase of this nationally-significant project, located within Tuas Nexus — Singapore’s first integrated water reclamation and solid waste treatment facility.

Australia’s energy transition and waste challenge are converging. As landfills reach capacity, emissions targets tighten and electricity systems seek firm, dispatchable power, waste‑to‑energy (WtE) is increasingly part of the conversation. Yet despite decades of safe operation overseas, WtE in Australia is often reduced to a misleading slogan: ‘burning rubbish’.
