BUTTE — Reigning Frontier Conference champion Montana Tech opened its season with a runaway victory Thursday evening. Quarterback Jarrett Wilson totaled four touchdowns — including a hat trick of rushing scores while rumbling for 101 yards — and the Orediggers defense pitched a shutout as No. 5 Tech stormed to a 48-0 victory over Ottawa (Ariz.) in the annual Copper Game at Bob Green Field. It was the first meeting between the programs.

Coming off its best season yet under coach Kyle Samson, Montana Tech football is set to open its 2026 campaign with its annual Copper Game on Thursday against Ottawa (Ariz.) in what will be the first meeting between the programs. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. "Excited for the opportunity, the challenge. It should be a lot of fun," said Samson, who is heading into his seventh season guiding the Orediggers.
