As I've transitioned from the field to the press box, my interests have switched from making stories to finding them. Every game recap, investigative piece or brief, I seek to tell a story that differs from the writers to my left and right. CHARLOTTE — Wes Miller was introduced as the 15th head coach of Charlotte Men’s Basketball on Wednesday, welcomed into the department by UNC Charlotte Chancellor Sharon Gaber and Director of Athletics Kevin White. “Charlotte is special for basketball,” Miller said. “We’re going to play hard, we’re going to play smart, and we’re going to play together. This program is going to be built on players and serving young people.

Eli Cole and Keon Howe were once pinned against one another under the spotlight of NCAA Regionals. Final spots in the national finals don’t reward ties, so when the two did just that in 2021, they were forced into a jump-off for the last qualifying slot. Usually coaching the two alongside one another, Olesen was forced to tutor them against one another, even if the winner was Charlotte either way. “Our number one and two vaulters in program history had to go against each other,” Olesen said.
