With South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, having already announced plans to bid for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, CAF has now officially opened the bidding process. McKenzie has publicly declared his intention to host the 2028 AFCON, a topic he has reiterated over the past several months. Speaking at a press briefing on 5 May, McKenzie also confirmed that South Africa would engage with neighbouring countries to put together a joint co-hosting bid.
