Utilization of a CMV T Cell Immunity Assay to Guide Secondary Prophylaxis in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients
Background Secondary prophylaxis following treatment of CMV infection in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) may be considered in high-risk SOTRs, although utilization criteria are not well described. The addition of CMV-specific T-cell immunity assay testing may help guide selection of SOTRs for secondary prophylaxis. Methods All SOTRs at a single center with CMV T-cell assays obtained during secondary prophylaxis between January 2020 and August 2023 were reviewed.

Abstract Nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) infections are challenging to manage and are frequently non-responsive to aggressive but poorly-tolerated antibiotic therapies. Immunosuppressed lung transplant patients are susceptible to NTM infections and poor patient outcomes are common. Bacteriophages present an alternative treatment option and are associated with favorable clinical outcomes. Similarly, dual beta-lactam combinations show promise in vitro, but clinical use is sparse.

INTRODUCTION Cryptosporidium species are intestinal apicomplexan protozoa that cause significant global morbidity and mortality in young children (1). Even when asymptomatic, childhood Cryptosporidium infections are associated with impaired growth attainment (2). Syndromic-based diarrhea interventions may be ineffective for cryptosporidiosis, and targeted anticryptosporidial therapeutics are unavailable, especially in resource-limited settings (2).
