Lykke Li styr upp festen

Ben Böhmer Links With Lykke Li on "Hiding"
Renowned electronic music artist Ben Böhmer and Lykke Li, two award-winning musicians who have carved out their own distinct lanes in music, deliver the second single on Böhmer’s studio album, 'Bloom', out on September 27 via Ninja Tune. "Hiding" is a shimmering collaboration flooded with Ben's lush pads and triumphant melodies, along with Lykke Li's iconic vocals washing over crisp breakbeat; an immaculate meeting point between indie, pop, and electronica.
‘Merrily We Roll Along’ Star Krystal Joy Brown on Seeing Herself in Gussie Original

Cleo Wade on ‘Remember Love,’ Her Most Personal Book Yet Original
"Remember Love" by Cleo Wade. Courtesy “For a long time, I was really scared about releasing this book,” says Cleo Wade. Despite having many published books under her belt, her latest, “Remember Love,” felt almost like the first time.
Alisha Boe on ‘The Buccaneers’ Finale, Her First Period Piece Original
Alisha Boe Courtesy of Evan Brown As luck would have it, the SAG-AFTRA strike lifted the exact day that “The Buccaneers” landed onto Apple TV+. Which is how Alisha Boe is on Zoom now, calling in from her home in Los Angeles, ready to break down her first period piece. “There’s been a really fun response,” Boe says of the interactions she’s had on her Instagram.
Flume: Palaces
These songs, along with hypnotic, sample-heavy instrumentals like “DHLC” and “Love Light,” attempt to recreate the atmosphere of Skin, contrasting intense tension with moments of relief and weightlessness to mimic the build/drop dynamic of an EDM track without sounding quite like EDM. But Palaces is most successful when Streten removes himself from this zone and instead puts his own spin on entirely different styles.
Craig Finn: A Legacy of Rentals
The writing remains the main attraction in Finn’s work, and both as a storyteller and a rock songwriter, he has never sounded more in control. From the beginning, he had a gift for meticulous, vivid world-building, and his wordplay has gotten tighter as his subjects have come down to earth: “He dreams of sweeping vistas/And machines that sweep the streets,” goes a line in “Curtis & Shepard,” which tells us everything we need to know about the central character’s suffocating lifestyle.
Hodgy: Entitled
At the beginning of his career, Hodgy was an able foil. Odd Future was a collective full of rap hellions intent on pushing boundaries as often as they pushed clothing covered in cats, but even within that hectic framework, Hodgy’s voice was always recognizable. The higher register of his voice stuck out next to the deeper rasps of Tyler, The Creator and Domo Genesis, giving each verse a sense of urgency, even if his bars weren’t particularly impressive.
Mavis Staples / Levon Helm: Carry Me Home
Consider just how astonishing and galvanizing it must have felt for Helm, the white Southerner, and Staples, the scion of a Black Mississippi native, to witness that recent election after the toil of the civil rights era. (Staples was once arrested at gunpoint while crossing into Memphis.) Carry Me Home cherishes progress, however slow or imperfect it may be.
Boldy James / Real Bad Man: Killing Nothing
However, James isn’t always concerned with making his songs feel relatable. On “Cash Transactions,” he engages in a common boast over a dusty loop: “I’ll probably never love this rap shit more than these cash transactions/I got a passion for selling drugs.” He stretches out that last word—”druuugs”—and it sounds like he’s sneering at rappers who overstate their proximity to the streets.

Brad Pitt & Lykke Li are just art-world buddies, they’re not dating at all
This week, there was another revival of the “maybe Brad Pitt is dating Lykke Li” rumor. Every few months, there’s another outbreak. I think most of the time, the rumors start at Deuxmoi, which means that A) either Brad and Lykke are genuinely being seen together around LA, B) Brad’s publicist is desperate for some headlines or C) Lykke Li’s people want to increase her visibility in American gossip markets. I’m going more with B and C.
Brad Pitt has been spending time with Swedish singer Lykke Li for months?
Last year, a rumor about Brad Pitt kept appearing on Deuxmoi, and then it was getting picked up by gossip outlets and various media outlets. The rumor: Brad Pitt has been secretly dating Lykke Li, a Swedish singer who is LA-based. They have friends in common – mostly Brad’s “art world” friends – and they apparently live somewhat close to each other in Los Feliz (a neighborhood in LA).

Mark Ronson has released the title track and second single from his upcoming solo album, Late Night Feelings. It’s a smooth, house-y track featuring Lykke Li on lead vocals. Ronson has described Late Night Feelings, which he announced last year, as being an album of “sad bangers” influenced by his recent divorce.
The New Yorker Recommends: A Breakup Anthem By Lykke Li
A few weeks ago, after a single listen to Lykke Li’s trappy, R. & B.-inflected elegy “Hard Rain,” I blocked off the morning of the release for her new album, “So Sad So Sexy.” A breakup song—or, rather, a breaking-up song—“Hard Rain” intensifies like a summer shower. It begins with a sprinkle of cello and Li’s crystalline voice. This is the calm before the so-sad storm. “If you like the feeling of a hard rain falling, I have a seaful, I can give you an ocean,” she sings.
New Music Roundup ft. Lykke Li, Snail Mail & Kids See Ghosts
Nothing says new music like a Friday, and this week was no exception. From the fiercely poignant indie rock of 18-year-old Lindsey Jordan, better known as Snail Mail, to the crisp comeback pop of Swedish singer Lykke Li, to the long-awaited collab from Kanye and Kid Cudi, this week we truly saw it all. Keep up with our top picks from this weekend’s releases below with Cliché Magazine’s new music roundup.
Where To Start With... Lykke Li
Born in the southernmost Swedish county of Skåne to a photographer mother and a father known locally as the guitarist in Swedish punk/reggae band Dag Vag, singer-songwriter Lykke Li first emerged on the scene in 2007 with her debut EP Little Bit, immediately being marked out by critics as one to watch. Her debut album Youth Novels was released the following year, first in January 2008 in the Nordic regions, then across Europe that June and finally in the U.S. in August.

Song to Song: Malick On Repeat
There’s something to be said for audiences meeting a filmmaker halfway. Some movies are unconventionally slow-paced, or challenging, or abstract, their finer qualities only unveiled to those with the willingness to fully submit themselves to the director’s vision.
Y/N: Lil Kim Drops Another Weak Freestyle
Weekly-ish, a pre-approved, snap-judged music guide based on our very scientific, non-subjective Yes/No rating system. There's really no debating this, come on, stop. Y: Watching Jessie Ware's "Champagne Kisses" video got me unnecessarily sentimental in the middle of the day. Ugh. It's high on emo and also strange, with imagery like dripping red lipstick and Jessie with a giraffe neck (it's got everything). [Fader] N: I guess Lil Kim isn't getting my telepathic messages telling her to bow out.
