Introduction: Recently the REGATTA trial (Fujitani, Lancet Oncol 2016) showed no overall survival (OS) benefit from gastrectomy followed by chemotherapy compared to chemotherapy alone in advanced gastric cancer (AGC) patients (HR 1.09; p = 0.70). However, previous data suggest that palliative gastrectomy may be associated with longer OS.
