INTRODUCTION Diamond–Blackfan anaemia (DBA) is an inherited bone marrow failure syndrome characterized by ineffective erythropoiesis with isolated macrocytic anaemia, reticulocytopenia and a paucity of erythroid precursors in the bone marrow. Upwards of one quarter of patients have associated congenital abnormalities, most commonly including craniofacial, thumb or cardiac anomalies. Most patients present with significant anaemia and are diagnosed within the first year of life.
