Madeline Ackley Salazar’s Biography

Madeline Ackley Salazar is a local news reporter based in the Phoenix metro area. She currently works for Independent Newsmedia covering the cities of Goodyear and Litchfield Park since July 2021.
Madeline's reporting has been focused on community issues, local politics, immigration, policing and homelessness. She has previously worked as an intern on The Arizona Republic’s Breaking News Desk and as an editorial intern for the Phoenix Business Journal. She has also worked as a freelance reporter for the Arizona Mirror. During her time at the Walter Cronkite School, she worked as a borderlands reporter for Cronkite News, the news division of Arizona PBS, where she won a national SPJ award for her reporting on the lives of deported U.S. veterans living in Tijuana, Mexico.
