Asking AI for Health or Money Advice? Here's Where It Gets Its Answers From
More people are turning to AI platforms like ChatGPT or Gemini to get answers to questions they previously would have typed into a Google search bar. These tools search the web for the best sources to answer each particular question, and they show their work in the form of citations, which are essentially links to the sources they used to assemble their responses. But which sources do they cite most often?

What 895 Stories Reveal About the Citations Earned By Sites Under DR60
Summary Domains under DR60 — even under DR40 — earn significant AI citations, according to Stacker's research. Citations increase with pickup volume, up to a certain point, meaning that optimizing for reach is still a valuable strategy. Here at Stacker, we've talked quite a bit about how having your content distributed to high-authority news sites contributes to AI visibility.

When AI Links to You But Doesn't Say Your Name: The Citation vs. Mention Gap
Modern brands know that appearing in AI search is a must. What they may not understand as well is that AI visibility is more than just being mentioned by name. AI platforms also link to and cite brand content that they've deemed a trustworthy source of information. And sometimes an AI engine's response will include both a brand mention and citation simultaneously.
