Russellville defeated Van-Far by 14 last year but were tougher this year. Van-Far lost 47-6 at Class 1 No. 7 Russellville (2-0) to start this season with two losses. Cayden Douglas scored another touchdown for Van-Far on a short run after a 60-yard run by him set it up. The Panthers (2-0) finished with 330 rushing yards and had five kids score touchdowns. Head coach Tyler Forsee said Hallsville (1-1) has liked to throw the ball in the past and did so again this year.

North Callaway mounted a comeback to try to salvage its home opener on Friday but didn’t quite get there. The Thunderbirds lost 35-28 to Macon (1-1) after falling behind 27-14 at halftime. They came within seven points twice in the fourth quarter on a touchdown run by Jaiden Galbreath and a touchdown pass from Coltyn O’Neal to Collin Moore. Head coach Kevin O’Neal said the execution wasn’t there in the first half, starting with Macon’s first touchdown on a 48-yard pass and going from there.

Mexico softball was out during Labor Day but didn't get the result it wanted. The Lady Bulldogs lost 3-2 at district foe Hallsville (4-3) on Monday on a two-out walk-off single by Stella Heller. They struck out nine times and recorded five hits in seven innings against Madilyn Carmichael. Aleigha Henderson finished 2-for-3 with a RBI double, and Kaitlyn Krietemeyer that hit with a RBI single in the first inning for a 2-0 lead for Mexico (7-2).

Mexico is keeping the sign. The Bulldogs (1-1) defeated their longtime rival Fulton (0-2) for the 15th straight time with a 26-19 win on Friday night in Mexico. Fulton led for most of the game until Mexico took the lead with around eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. James Matthews returned a kick 87 yards and then Connor Fisher ran for a 2-point conversion to give Mexico a 20-19 lead.
