1. Introduction Lactones are a large group of naturally occurring compounds. They are characterized by a variety of biological activities [1,2,3]. Of particular interest are lactones containing halogen atoms in their structure. Such compounds are usually obtained by chemical synthesis, although sometimes they can also be isolated from living organisms. Synthetic halolactones show antiproliferative activity [4], antimicrobial activity, cytotoxicity [5] and the ability to inhibit photosynthesis [6,7].
