1. Introduction The oral mucosa (OM) shows the essential quality of quick regeneration [1] and a slower rate of ageing in comparison to other tissues in the body [2]. Both the epithelia and the lamina propria of OM contain stem cells that have been shown to be good candidates for stem cell therapies, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine [1,2]. OM represents an on-demand easy access source of autologous cells and is a rich source of a large number of stem cells.
