Malini Basu is an American journalist and communications leader with more than two decades of experience telling stories that shape public understanding and policy. A multiple Emmy and National Edward R. Murrow Award–winning journalist, her career spans national television newsrooms, city government, and global strategy—bridging journalism, innovation, and impact.
Basu has reported from the front lines of some of the nation’s most consequential stories, including the Astroworld tragedy, the Vanessa Guillen investigation, and the Boston Marathon bombing trials. Her international reporting took her inside one of the world’s most dangerous prisons in El Salvador, where she conducted exclusive interviews with convicted gang members—bringing global attention to issues of violence, justice, and human rights.
Today, she helps lead the City of Long Beach’s economic development and communications efforts, strengthening its position as a hub for sustainability and innovation ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. Through her platform, Sanku Elevates, Basu continues to explore how technology, sports, and sustainability can unite communities and drive meaningful change.
