Clean Energy and a Cold Climate” is Not Enough: National AI Sovereignty Requires a Full Sustainable Life-Cycle Framing
Canada’s National AI Strategy, “AI For All” [1], presents an ambitious vision to foster trust, opportunity, and sovereignty across the socio-techno-economic value chain for the Canadian AI sector. The strategy treats AI infrastructure and energy requirements as strategic assets, rather than afterthoughts. This is in contrast to the 2025 America’s AI Action Plan [2] and the European Commission’s approach to AI [3], where both lacked a vision for supporting AI infrastructure.

Tuberculosis (TB) wards pose significant risks to healthcare workers (HCWs) owing to airborne Mycobacterium tuberculosis transmission, exacerbated by inadequate ventilation and prolonged exposure. These conditions increase latent TB infection rates and psychological stress, compromising HCW well-being and patient care quality. This paper presents the work completed to develop a five-degrees-of-freedom remote-controlled robotic arm to mitigate these risks in TB wards.
Upcycling Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Into High-Efficient Epoxy Toughener: Hyperbranched Oligomer Induced Nano-Structural Heterogeneities
1 Introduction Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), with an annual production exceeding 100 million metric tons, stands as one of the most ubiquitous commodity plastics [1, 2]. Its intrinsic stability and semi-crystalline nature render it highly persistent in the environment upon disposal. Currently, less than 10% of post-consumer PET is recycled, with the majority either downcycled into lower-value products or incinerated, resulting in significant carbon emissions [3].
A Robotic Testing Platform for Pipelined Discovery of Resilient Dielectric Elastomer Actuators
1 Introduction Reduced lifetime under high electrical fields limits the practical use of linear dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) in aerial [1, 2], aquatic [3, 4], walking [5, 6], and inspection [7, 8] robots. While most actuator designs achieve long lifetimes at low electrical fields, their durability drops sharply under higher fields.

Time-of-flight-based guided-wave imaging for multi-damage localization in large plate structures with limited sensing paths
Abstract Guided-wave imaging is widely used for structural health monitoring and non-destructive evaluation of plate-like structures; however, many existing imaging methods require dense sensing networks and a large number of sensing paths, increasing data acquisition effort, storage requirements, and computational cost. This study proposes a time-of-flight-based guided-wave imaging framework for blind multi-damage localization in isotropic aluminum plates using a limited number of sensing paths.
System-level lightweight design of lower-limb exoskeletons: challenges and co-design strategies
Abstract Wearable lower-limb exoskeletons have emerged as a promising solution for rehabilitation, mobility assistance, and human performance augmentation. However, their practical deployment is limited by lightweight design challenges, particularly the trade-off between structural stiffness and system mass, the increased inertial burden caused by distal mass distribution, and the difficulty of preserving torque transmission under wearable constraints.
Flow organization and hydraulic-loss-aware design of additively manufactured heat exchangers
Abstract Additive manufacturing has changed the way compact heat exchangers are designed, not only because it enables complex internal geometries, but also because it allows flow passages to be treated as functional fields rather than simple ducts. In conventional heat exchanger design, heat transfer enhancement is often obtained by increasing surface area, adding fins, or disturbing the boundary layer.
