Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) continues to deal with the ramifications stemming from suspending four Muslim students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). The students were suspended over a video posted to social media that appeared to reenact the taking of Israeli hostages while the students were attempting to promote an upcoming event for the school’s Muslim Student Association (MSA).

Fairfax County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano has continued to catch the ire of more locals. Descano and his office are currently under investigation by the Department of Justice, according to a May 8 release. The investigation revolves around Descano’s sentencing and policing while refusing to work with ICE agents. The DOJ is looking into claims that Descano has granted preferential treatment to illegal aliens.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger ruffled some feathers across the Commonwealth by vetoing HB1263/SB378, a bill designed to ensure that public-sector government employees can negotiate certain rights. Some of those rights include the right to unionize, health and safety, salary, benefits, and other working conditions. Spanberger’s veto included amendments that included delaying the bill’s implementation until 2030.
