Two Campbell River-based environmental organizations are concerned about the preferential treatment towards growth and development in the city’s new draft official community plan. The city has a public hearing planned for 6 p.m. on Monday, July 20 at council chambers. The city also held a survey last summer, and other community events from September last year until the draft plan was presented to the Committee of the Whole on May 26 of this year.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and partners joined to celebrate the re-opening of a park on Comox Road, promoting the park redesign, shoreline improvements and project’s collaborative approach as well as celebrating the park’s new name: qapoje Park. qapoje (kah-poh’-jeh) means “spring salmon in a creek flowing south.” It is the traditional ayajusem term for Coho Creek, which flows from Back Road, under Comox Road, through the park and into the estuary.

Indie folk pop duo Big Little Lions are coming back to the Comox Valley and Campbell River this summer, with a show in each community at the end of July. First they will be stopping in Cumberland at Amara Manville House Concerts on Wednesday July 29. A couple of days later they will be in Campbell River at Spirit Square.
