The WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener Program will again manage the Boswell Building during Chelan County Fair, Sept. 4-7. The Boswell Building is where exhibitors can enter their flowers, vegetables and fruits for open class judging. Exhibits may be entered anytime between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3. I don't travel to Manson often, but when I do, I can't help but look up at the hillside where Chelan County Sheriff's Deputy Saúl Gallegos' life ended 20 years ago and wish things had turned out differently for him that fateful June day. I feel a connection to Saúl despite the fact that I never met him. I was the Wenatchee World reporter assigned to accompany World Photo Editor Don Seabrook to El Colecio, Michoacán for the funeral of the fallen deputy.

It can be a chore to get your garden growing and looking just the way you like it. There are years when things go smoothly in the garden, but most gardeners will admit that those years are largely the exception, not the norm. Challenges and problems do arise regularly for even the most experienced gardeners.
