YMCA hosts back-to-school carnival and supply drive Original
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – From now through August 19, the YMCA is collecting new school supplies like backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and glue sticks at both of its Broome County locations. The YMCA is hosting a Carnival for a Cause on Saturday, August 15, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Family YMCA in Johnson City. Admission is completely free when you donate a pack of new school supplies. Families can drop by to enjoy games, activities and an afternoon of fun while supporting local kids.

Mark Bordeau, who also chairs Feeding New York State, is calling for a two-year delay on new cost-sharing rules set to take effect in 2027. Under the new policy, states with higher payment error rates would have to cover part of the SNAP benefit costs themselves.
