Following the Footsteps of Medieval Monks on the Via degli Abati
By: Margherita Ragg ‘There used to be 25,000 people in my hometown, now there’s only 2500 of us left’ said Giuseppe, the taxi driver who picked us up in Piacenza and drove us to Bobbio, where the Via degli Abati starts. ‘We need more tourists’ he added. The early-afternoon sun shone bright, slicing through the mosquito-thick humidity. Yet the hitchhikers stood and waited, seeking respite from the heat under bridges or in the shade of a lone tree between the tobacco and sugarcane fields.

Meteora, the Real Life Inspiration for Game of Thrones Eyrie
“I’ve been here before”, I kept thinking as we explored Meteora, a wonderful mountain area in Northern Greece. I remember this place. Tall sandstone pillars, sheer cliffs topped by monasteries built defying gravity. It was a clear day, but it was easy enough to imagine the valley filled with clouds, making the monasteries look as if they were ‘suspended in the sky’ – the meaning of the Greek word meteora. I’ve seen this place before. This looks familiar. And then, it hit me.

Madonna di Campiglio and the Brenta Dolomites

By: Margherita Ragg Visiting the sprawling city that Milan is today, it seems impossible to believe that it grew from a fortified city ringed with walls. The main sights of the city center are contained within the cerchia dei navigli, a ring of canals that were once the moat surrounding the medieval walls, navigable until they were covered in 1929. That's where you'll find the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and the boutiques of Via Montenapoleone.

Visiting Pinocchio Park, Tuscany
At the entrance of Pinocchio Park, there is a marble plaque, engraved with the opening lines of the book The Adventures of Pinocchio, written by Carlo Collodi in 1883. Wandering around the Park, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped into a fairytale. The sun shines through the leafy canopy; puppeteers prepare a show, while children play around statues depicting Pinocchio and the other characters of the tale.
