Discussion The systematic review showed that KMC reduces mortality during birth hospitalisation or by 28 days of age and probably reduces severe infection at the latest follow-up in preterm and low birth weight infants in health facilities and at home. KMC may result in a slight increment in growth parameters (weight and length) and exclusive breastfeeding rates at discharge. KMC may result in little to no difference in neurodevelopmental outcomes at 12 months compared with conventional care.

In the HELIX trial, Sudhin Thayyil and colleagues 1 Thayyil S Pant S Montaldo P et al. Hypothermia for moderate or severe neonatal encephalopathy in low-income and middle-income countries (HELIX): a randomised controlled trial in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Lancet Glob Health. 2021; 9: e1273-e1285 found no benefit in risk of mortality or severe disability following therapeutic hypothermia in neonates with asphyxia in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Abstract The aim of this prospective observational study was to compare the incidence of endotracheal tube (ETT) malposition using weight-based (Tochen), gestation-based (Kempley), and nasotragal length (NTL) methods in deceased neonates and fresh stillbirths. We enrolled deceased neonates and fresh stillbirths within 2 ± 1 h of death or delivery, respectively; without hydrops, tracheostomy or major congenital anomalies affecting face, neck, or thorax.
