What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paid writing gig was for the Ithaca Times.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Of course. I can do more than 100 WPM on an IBM Selectric.

Murphy Brown.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email. Email. Email. With the the topic super clear in the subject line, so I don't just delete it out of hand.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use a custom relational database system I built in Filemaker, and am experimenting with AirTable. I'm curious about new AI tools.
What's your favorite social network?
LinkedIn.
Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to be Hemingway.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, but I didn't do that that much. I mostly worked as a computer programmer for my high school.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Doesn't really matter. I'm on weekly and monthly publication schedule, not breaking news anymore, so I read emails when I get around to it.
What's your favorite drink?
Bloody Mary.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On my phone.

Futurism
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I cover consumer tech. I don't -- I'm strictly on the enterprise side.
