1 Introduction It has been predicted that global warming will increase abiotic and biotic stresses experienced by crops, including drought (IPCC 2021; Vicente-Serrano et al. 2022) and fungal pathogen pressure (Chaloner et al. 2021). These predictions are of particular concern for perennial plants, such as forest trees (Anderegg et al. 2015; McDowell et al. 2022; Petek-Petrik et al. 2023) and grapevines (Van Leeuwen et al. 2024), which accumulate stress over several decades.
