We read with interest the Article by Yue Niu and colleagues in The Lancet Planetary Health in which they found an association between long-term ozone exposure and increased risks of cardiovascular mortality in China. 1 Niu Y Zhou Y Chen R et al. Long-term exposure to ozone and cardiovascular mortality in China: a nationwide cohort study. The study could provide additional evidence of this association in middle-income countries; however, we have concerns regarding their subgroup analysis.

The recent viewpoint article by Qu et al. entitled “An Imperative Need for Research on the Role of Environmental Factors in Transmission of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)” highlights an imperative need for research on SARS-CoV-2 in environmental sciences.(1) It is promising that advanced environmental science and technology will identify environmental factors modifying the infectivity of the virus, the severity of COVID-19, and help to control its environmental spread.
