Recent guidance on sustainability cooperation from the Dutch Competition Authority | JD Supra

The Dutch Competition Authority has recently approved three different sustainability initiatives in the CO2 capture/storage, soft drinks and floriculture sectors. These approvals demonstrate the Dutch Competition Authority’s willingness to provide guidance on the application of competition law to sustainability initiatives, and to consider that an exemption from the application of competition may be justified on grounds of sustainability.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) goes live | JD Supra

The DMA has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will enter into force on 1 November 2022. The DMA aims to address concerns regarding "contestability" and "fairness" in the digital economy and introduces a number of per se prohibitions and obligations on "big tech". The rules are inspired by competition cases. Under the DMA, the European Commission will designate as "gatekeepers" certain providers of "core platform services" that fulfil a number of criteria.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Competition blocks vertical merger in the gas sector for the first time | JD Supra

On 16 June 2022, Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Competition announced its decision to block National Gas and Industrialization Company from acquiring a majority stake in Best Gas Carrier on the basis of vertical competition concerns. This is the first vertical merger prohibited by the GAC and the first to be prohibited on substantive grounds.
