Marisa Taylor

I am a Brooklyn-based freelance writer and editor with more than a decade of experience. My passions are public health and and women's issues, but I've also written about science, LGBT rights, technology and business.

Most recently, I worked as an assistant editor at The Guardian U.S. in New York, commissioning stories about sustainable business, and before that, I spent three years covering health and gender as a staff reporter for Al Jazeera America's website. I kicked off my journalism career on the tech beat, writing regular gadget review columns for The Wall Street Journal and blogging daily for the WSJ's "Digits" blog. I was also a researcher for the WSJ's Gerald Loeb Award-winning investigative series "What They Know," which examined online privacy.

I studied magazine writing and science reporting at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where my master's thesis about domestic violence in LGBT relationships was awarded with honors. Before attending J-school, I worked in international development, with a stint at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C. and a State Department internship with the American Embassy in Costa Rica. I earned a B.A. in psychology from Stanford University and grew up in Northern California.
