Media, specially the internet, is filled with nonsense, idiotic messages, quotes that famous people never said (and nobody cares to double check them), and last, but certainly not least, plagiarism. In an age of technological development, where information is at the reach of our fingertips, it is easy to be swallowed by all the new-age nonsense philosophy we are exposed to daily. Our own professional performance as educators is at stake.

*Oxymoron: rhetorical device that uses an ostensible self-contradiction to illustrate a rhetorical point or to reveal a paradox. (Source: Wikipedia) It is not an easy job to analyse (critically) one’s professional development, but when I come to think about my own teaching practice and experience, the best metaphor I can find to meet my inner self is an oxymoron: “Amateur expert”.
